Turning Up the Volume For New Voices to be Heard
Excision Bass Music Initiative
Music festivals hold the special ability to be diverse in not just the type of music played but to draw in a positive atmosphere and community. My favorite music festival genre is Electronic Dance Music, better known as EDM. My initial introduction to EDM music and culture had me in debate whether or not I actually enjoyed it until I let myself be fully emersed in the experience. One talented artist, in particular, was not only able to expand my taste in music but also amazed me with how much effort he puts into taking his passion for music and delivering an array of life-changing experiences to his audience.
Jeff Abel, or Excision, embodied the rave scene values of peace, love, unity & respect and created the Excision Bass Music Initiative. Understanding how the entertainment industry is restrictive for rising artists who may not have high financial means, Excision acknowledges that many talented artists lack the financial freedom to boost their music careers.
The initiative provides funding for ten promising bass music producers, giving them $10,000 each to expand their careers and relieve some financial pressure. Excision’s own rise to success is a backbone for many, as thousands look up to him for inspiration. Not only do these artists get the funding, but they also receive supporting slots at signature festivals such as Lost Lands and Bass Canyon. It cannot be put into words how his initiative has allowed for the expansion of diversity in bass music producers. Allowing these artists to share their stories, Excision turns his speaker on and hands the mic to a new group of producers as an opportunity to tell their stories.
